New Nebraska receiver Kwazi Gilmer praises Husker fans

One of Nebraska’s newest wide receivers is excited about his new team. Former UCLA Bruin Kwazi Gilmer met with the Nebraska media for the first time on Wednesday.

Gilmer recorded 50 catches for 535 yards and four touchdowns last season. In 2024, he had 31 catches for 345 yards and two touchdowns.

The new Husker has two years of eligibility remaining. While meeting the press, the former Bruin said that the culture played a critical role in his decision to transfer to a conference rival.

“Everyone sticks together. We’re all brothers, and it’s just all we’ve got is football up here, and you could go do anything else, and that was one of the main reasons why I came here is because I could only be committed to football.”

He played well against the Huskers in 2024, catching three passes for 88 yards, including a 48-yard touchdown. UCLA won the game 27-20, and Gilmer was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. The receiver fondly remembered the experience of playing in Lincoln.

“It was fun, I’m not going to lie. Being out there, just seeing the crowd. My freshman year we played at LSU, but then coming up here, it was a whole different environment. Crazy fans, I remember being at the hotel at like 6:00 in the morning, just flooded. I ain’t ever seen nothing like that. We don’t get that back up at East LA. It’s dope here.”

The Nebraska spring practice periord will end with the Red/White Spring Game on Saturday, March 28, at 11 a.m. CT at Memorial Stadium. The Huskers are returning to a traditional spring game after a one-year hiatus.

Last season, Nebraska postponed the event after coach Matt Rhule expressed frustration with teams using the spring game to scout and poach players from his roster. Instead, Nebraska hosted an event called the Husker Games. It was similar to the NFL Pro Bowl, which included skills competitions and a 7-on-7 flag football game.
