Newcastle United has placed a clear emphasis on recruiting young talent this summer, with the club already bringing several prospects to St. James’ Park while simultaneously pursuing more established additions before the Sept. 1 deadline.
Sean Steur, Aladji Bamba and Ewen Jaouen are among the youngsters to arrive during this major “Newcastle 2.0” overhaul, while the Magpies have also agreed a future move for Ecuadorian prospect Johan Martinez and 18-year-old Guinea international Ousmane Diabate.

Now, another teenager has reportedly landed on the Magpies’ radar. According to Ben Jacobs, Newcastle is tracking New York Red Bulls forward Julian Hall, although the Premier League club faces significant competition for the wonderkid.
“Leipzig have reignited their interest in New York Red Bulls forward Julian Hall,” Jacobs reported. “Atletico Madrid have also made an approach. Newcastle United and Hull City are also tracking the 18-year-old, who has nine goals and four assists in 19 starts.”
Jacobs did not report that Newcastle has made an approach or opened negotiations, mind you, so the Magpies’ interest appears to remain at the monitoring stage, pretty much like that coming from all other clubs across Europe. That’s not the case with Atletico Madrid, however, as the Spanish side has reportedly already approached Hall or his club.

Hall’s production and lightning-quick development in the USA help explain why several European clubs are following him. The American has recorded nine goals and four assists across his last 19 starts for New York and has already broken multiple MLS age records.
“Hall is the second-youngest player to make his MLS debut (15 years, 190 days) and the youngest to score an MLS hat-trick,” Jacobs reported.
Hall made his MLS debut in June 2024 and has since developed into one of the league’s notable young prospects, earning an MLS All-Star selection last month. He already holds a sizable market value of €8 million.
There is no indication yet that Hall is close to joining Newcastle, nor any other club for that matter, and as was the case with similar talents such as Kees Smit, the competition will be fierce and it’ll make it really hard for the Magpies to complete a deal.

What do you make of Newcastle’s pursuit of one of the brightest MLS talents in Julian Hall? Should the Magpies focus on prospects coming off European clubs instead? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
