NFL reportedly expected to hold 2028 draft in Minneapolis

by

NFL owners are expected to announce at league meetings this week that the 2028 draft will be held in Minneapolis, ESPN reports.

Minneapolis would be the 12th different city to host the NFL Draft since the league moved away from holding it in New York every year in 2015. Chicago hosted it twice starting in 2015, and it’s since been held in Philadelphia, Arlington, Texas, Nashville, Tennessee, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Missouri, Detroit, Green Bay, Wisconsin and then Pittsburgh in April.

Washington, D.C. will host the draft in 2027, and then Minneapolis will host in 2028 if owners move forward as expected this week.

The NFL has promoted the traveling draft as a destination event for fans and held it at outdoor venues to allow for large crowds to attend. The league announced at the conclusion of last month’s draft in Pittsburgh that a record 805,000 fans showed up over the course of the draft’s three days.

That broke an attendance record for the event that was previously set in Detroit, where the NFL announced that more than 700,000 fans showed up over the event’s three days. Next year’s draft will be held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
