No. 1 recruit in 2026, Jackson Cantwell, makes tantalizing post for Michigan football fans

by

It had been nine years since Michigan football had managed to secure the No. 1 recruit in the country, but nearly a decade after landing 2016 Paramus (N.J.) Catholic five-star edge rusher Rashan Gary, the Wolverines got 2025 Belleville (Mich.) five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood. Now the maize and blue are going for two in a row.

On Saturday, the Wolverines got a one-day visit from 2026 Nixa (Mo.) five-star offensive lineman Jackson Cantwell, the new No. 1 player in the country for this cycle. It was his second visit to Ann Arbor and while in town, the top prospect just so happened to get an iconic picture, featuring him and Underwood at the local bowling alley, Revel and Roll.

The hype emanating from the picture making the rounds has Cantwell asking aloud: could two No. 1s be the key to success?

That’s bound to get Michigan football fans hyped. But Cantwell is considering plenty of other schools still. He’s fresh off a one-day visit to Ohio State, while a bevy of SEC schools are also in the mix.

Cantwell is poised to be back on campus for an extended, official visit on June 13.
