Agot Makeer, a five star wing and the No. 4 overall recruit for the class of 2025 according to ESPN has committed to South Carolina women’s basketball and coach Dawn Staley.
On Saturday, Makeer revealed on social media she picked the Gamecocks over UConn and Michigan State. She narrowed her list down to the three schools after previously including Duke, Kentucky and North Carolina.
Makeer is 6-foot-1 and is from Ontario, Canada, but plays for Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida.
Shortly before her announcement, Staley posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “A birdie just flew in the nest!” which is something she has posted in the past in reference to recruitment news.
This is just the second recruit for the class of 2025 for Staley. The No. 22 overall recruit Ayla McDowell committed to South Carolina on Oct. 24 then signed on Nov. 13.
Both McDowell and Makeer were named 2025 McDonald’s All-Americans but will play for different teams. McDowell will play for the West with Makeer on the East.
McDowell played AAU basketball for CyFair Elite with the No. 1 recruit in the 2025 class, Aaliyah Chavez, who has South Carolina as one of her final schools. Her other finalists are Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and UCLA. She will announce on March 21 according to On3.
After the 2024-25 season, South Carolina will be without Sakima Walker, Sania Feagin, Te-Hina Paopao and Bree Hall with all four are out of eligibility. Redshirt junior Raven Johnson has not yet announced if she is returning next season or declaring for the WNBA draft.

Chloe Kitts, Tessa Johnson, MiLaysia Fulwiley, Maddy McDaniel, Adhel Tac, Joyce Edwards, Maryam Dauda and Ashlyn Watkins all have eligibility remaining.
