No. 6 Kentucky ready for road challenge at Georgia

by

Kentucky moved back to No. 6 in the latest AP Top 25, and will carry that ranking on its first SEC road swing of the season this week.

The Wildcats go to Georgia for a Tuesday matchup that tips off at 6 p.m. CT at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Ga.

Both Kentucky and Georgia are 12-2.

The Wildcats have shown they can be a machine on the offensive end of the floor. They had one of their best games of the season in a 106-100 win over Florida, which dropped to No. 8 after losing in Rupp Arena.

UK’s offense is ranked as the fifth-most efficient in the country, according to KenPom. Kentucky is averaging 1.228 points per possession for the season, and has two straight games where it has produced 1.40 points per possession or better.

Kentucky has been nearly expert at taking care of the basketball.

The Wildcats dished out 25 assists to just six turnovers against the Gators. Kentucky leads the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.09. Lamont Butler is tops on the team at 2.52.

Otega Oweh leads six Wildcats in double-figure scoring at 15.9 points per game. Oweh is the only player who has scored in double digits in every game.

Butler chips in 13.8 ppg and has distributed a team-leading 53 assists. Koby Brea, who made seven 3-pointers in UK’s 106-100 win over Florida, is hitting for 12.7 ppg. Jaxson Robinson is scoring 12.1 ppg, Andrew Carr is at 11.5 ppg and Amari Williams at 10.4 ppg. Williams also leads UK on the glass with 8.4 rpg.

No UK team has ever finished the season with six players averaging double-figure points.

It will be interesting to see how Georgia will respond to just its second loss of the season, 63-51 at No. 23 Ole Miss last Saturday.

Asa Newell has been a freshman of impact for Georgia. The 6-11 post player has three double-doubles this season, including 13 points, 13 rebounds in the loss to Ole Miss.
