To close out the non-conference schedule and a three-game homestand, the No. 8 Texas Longhorns are 41.5-point favorites over the Sam Houston Bearkats for Saturday’s matchup at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, according to FanDuel.

Ranked No. 126 out of 136 teams in this week’s SP+ rankings, Sam Houston enters the game with an 0-3 record coming out of a bye week following losses to Western Kentucky, UNLV, Hawaii to start the season. The first-year head coach in Huntsville is Phil Longo, the former offensive coordinator at Wisconsin and North Carolina whose first stint at Sam Houston from 2014 to 2016 vaulted him to the Power Five level as the play caller at Ole Miss.

Texas is 2-1 after wins over San Jose State and UTEP, but hasn’t covered the spread in its three games this season.

Saturday’s game is only the second all-time meeting between the Longhorns and Bearkats. The 56-3 win by Texas in 2006 was most notable because it’s the only game against an FCS opponent that the Horns have played since 1992. The Bearkats are in their third season in the FBS.

Kickoff on Saturday is at 7:00 p.m. Central on SEC Network+.
