No penalties called in first half of Ohio State-Oregon Rose Bowl football game

by

Ohio State football hasn’t seen its opponents called for penalties all season, and that trend continued in the first half of the Rose Bowl as neither the Buckeyes or Oregon Ducks drew a penalty.

During a clean first 30 minutes, the Bucks bolted to a 34-8 lead over Oregon.

OSU is ranked dead last, No. 134, in opponents’ penalty yards per game at 28.5.

Perhaps surprisingly, given that the Buckeyes‘ roster features pass rushers J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer, the last time a hold was called against an Ohio State opponent was back in the Michigan State game on Sept. 28, and that was negated by an offsetting OSU penalty.

The only time this season that a team was flagged for holding against Ohio State and assessed 10 yards for the infraction was against Western Michigan, the Buckeyes’ Week 2 opponent on Sept. 7.

Ohio State plays rather cleanly as well, ranking No. 13 in the country. The Buckeyes lose an average of just 38.9 yards per game to penalties.
