Now that North Carolina has its new guy calling the shots in Michael Malone, the team is being more aggressive in finding talent in the transfer portal.

Malone’s clout could entice players to join the Tar Heels, who are looking to reclaim lost glory after back-to-back first-round exits in the NCAA Tournament.

One of the main targets of North Carolina is Terrence Brown, who entered the transfer portal after a one-year stop at Utah. But according to a report from on3.com’s Joe Tipton, UNC is trying to fend off two fellow big-time programs for Brown.

“Utah transfer Terrence Brown is wrapping up an official visit to North Carolina today. Last night, I reported the 6-foot-3 junior was scheduled to see Kansas on Wednesday and Kentucky on Friday, but the Tar Heels will do their best to lock up the prolific scorer before he leaves campus today,” wrote Tipton.

“UNC is well-positioned here.”

Brown averaged 19.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.4 steals with the Utes. He spent two years at Fairleigh Dickinson before moving to Utah.

With Seth Trimble graduating and Derek Dixon, Jonathan Powell, Kyan Evans, and Isaiah Denis entering the transfer portal, Brown will have plenty of opportunity with the Tar Heels.

Another selling point for North Carolina is that Brown could benefit from the tutelage of Malone, who handled talented guards during his time in the NBA, including Jamal Murray, Isaiah Thomas, Andre Miller, Jameer Nelson, DJ Augustin, and Austin Rivers, among others.

Aside from Brown, the Tar Heels are also reportedly eyeing Kayden Mingo, who played his freshman year at Penn State.
