The North Carolina Tar Heels had a challenging 2024-25 season. They reached the NCAA Tournament, but not without controversy. As one of the final teams to sneak into the Big Dance, North Carolina landed as an 11-seed.

The Tar Heels had to play in one of the First Four games, where they managed to get past San Diego State. But their run ended quickly with a first-round loss to Ole Miss.
North Carolina finished 23-14, and pressure is starting to mount on head coach Hubert Davis. Now 101-45 in his four seasons at the helm, Davis led the team to the national championship game in his first year but has struggled to maintain that level. Fans are growing restless and hungry for a spark to reignite the program’s proud tradition.
That spark may have arrived Saturday morning that should energize Tar Heel Nation.
According to Jonathan Givony of ESPN and the DraftExpress, “Montenegrin wing Luka Bogavac has committed to North Carolina, agent Misko Raznatovic told ESPN.”
Givony added more detail about the newest Tar Heel: “Bogavac was a top-5 scorer in the Adriatic League, averaging 14.9 points per game, shooting 40% for 3. Turns 22 in September.”

Bogavac began his basketball journey with the Mega Basket youth program. In the 2020-21 Euroleague Basketball Next Generation Tournament, he averaged 14.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

As a member of Montenegro’s U16 national team, Bogavac put up 9.3 points per game in 2019. He later played for the Montenegro U20 squad that won bronze in the 2022 European Championships, appearing in all seven games.
This addition is a welcome one for a North Carolina team that has struggled to land elite talent from the transfer portal. While returning players like Henri Veesaar and Alabama transfer Jarin Stevenson provide experience and depth, the roster needed a proven scorer.
Davis and his staff are counting on Bogavac to help fill that role immediately next season.
