Notre Dame crushes Miami on road for 19th consecutive victory

by

One thing has become quite clear when it comes to top-ranked Notre Dame. If an opponent isn’t up to the right level, the game most likely is going to be a blowout.

Miami, which is just trying to make the ACC Tournament, found this out the hard way in an 82-42 Irish victory. That extended the Irish’s winning streak to 19 and clinched a double-bye in the aforementioned conference tournament.

The Irish (24-2, 15-0) scored the game’s first 10 points, and the Hurricanes (13-13, 3-12) didn’t get on the board until midway through the first quarter. Even once they got on, they simply couldn’t keep up.

The Hurricanes had more turnovers (10) than field goals (six) during the first half, after which the Irish had a 38-13 lead. The second half didn’t go much better for them.

The Hurricanes particularly suffered from 3-point range, missing all 16 of their attempts from there. Former Irish forward Natalija Marshall was particularly brutal, missing six of those attempts. The last Irish opponent to have a similarly putrid 3-point showing was Duke, which shot 0 for 12 in February 2015:

Sonia Citron scored 12 of her game-high 19 points in the first half, making all five of her field-goal attempts during that time. Hannah Hidalgo scored 18 points, which included making all seven of her free throws, one of which came to complete a four-point play.

Olivia Miles had 14 points and dished out six assists, one of them on a Citron 3 at the third-quarter buzzer. Liatu King completed a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
