POST SPRING RANKINGS ARE VERY MUCH IN FAVOR OF NOTRE DAME
I’m not sure how many times I need to say it, but Notre Dame’s Blue-Gold game mattered very little to the grand scheme of things. “No duh,” you say? Well, yeah. It still amazes me that there are still some people out there that are docking the Irish for a vanilla performance on that day, and a CJ Carr showing that was very forgettable.

It was a spring game. They really (really) need to make podcast equipment much more expensive.
Two guys with podcast equipment and a large audience to preach to, aren’t on the list of spring overreactors, are Joel Klatt and Josh Pate. They have the Irish as No. 2 and No. 1 respectively coming out of spring ball.
Klatt gives his reasons for having the Irish as high as he has them, and it’s about as sound and decisive as you’re going to find anywhere and from anyone talking about Notre Dame and the upcoming 2026 college football season.
THE ODDS
Despite some of these very high rankings, Notre Dame slipped in the eyes of the odds makers. Notre Dame was the odds favorite to win the national championship, but now that “honor” belongs to the Ohio State Buckeyes. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Ohio State is sitting at +550 with the Irish at +700, followed by Texas at +750.
THE SUMMER HEATER
CFB GM’s are saying that Notre Dame is one of several programs that will be on fire this summer out on the recruiting trail. To be honest — this is very much the pattern the Irish have followed for a number of years. May is off to a great start and it looks like we will have another strong summer.
OVERRATED?
Notre Dame annually gets more “overrated” chants by opposing fans than any other school. I have no numbers to prove that statement — but I know it’s true. I also know that the “overrated” label is mostly BS, and I have numbers for that. Like… maybe touch grass or something disenchanted Kentucky fan.
