SOUTH BEND—Notre Dame football has lost a pair of key reserves to major knee injuries, the school announced Saturday.
Sixth-year tight end Kevin Bauman (left knee) and second-year running back Kedren Young both sustained the injuries during training camp practices. Bauman’s college career is over after two previous comebacks from leg injuries in 2021 and 2022.

Young, who bulked up to 240 pounds on his 5-foot-11 frame, will miss the season as well with a torn ACL.
Bauman, a product of Red Bank (N.J.) Catholic High School, was looking forward to facing younger brother Alex Bauman in the Aug. 31 season opener at Miami. Alex Bauman, also a tight end, transferred from Tulane over the winter.

A bruising blocker at 6-5 and 250 pounds who also contributed on special teams, Bauman ends his Irish career with six receptions for 67 yards and a touchdown. The lone score, an 8-yard pass from fellow New Jersey native Steve Angeli, came in the fourth quarter of last September’s blowout win at Purdue.

Young, meanwhile, projected as a valuable short-yardage weapon in a deep position room. The Lufkin, Texas product averaged 5.5 yards on 21 carries for 116 rushing yards and one touchdown in 2024.
