When USC took down top-ranked UCLA last week, a real possibility emerged for Notre Dame. Had the Trojans, whose school’s football team is the archrival of the football team at the Irish’s school, upended the national rankings in the most ironic way? The answer turned out to be yes.
In the latest AP poll, the Irish have become the No. 1 team in the country. The Bruins, who previously had not lost a game this season, tumbled to No. 3 while Texas moved up to No. 2 after a win over LSU, now at No. 7. USC moved up two spots to No. 4, and UConn now is No. 5 after upsetting South Carolina, which is down to No. 6.
This is the first time the Irish have been the country’s top-ranked team since January 2019, when they were the defending national champions. Given that their only two losses have been during the Cayman Islands Classic during Thanksgiving weekend, it simply seemed like a matter of time before they got this honor, and gotten it they have:
If you haven’t gotten on the bandwagon yet, now is the time. This team is good and deserves your support.
