Nyls Korstanje Matches Dutch 50 Fly Record As He Secures Golden Double In Rotterdam
Nyls Korstsanje matched his Dutch 50 fly record before sprinting to the 50 free title as the Rotterdam Qualification Meet wrapped up.
Korstanje went 22.88 to equal the Netherlands mark he set in the semis at the 2022 European Championships in Rome where he went on to finish fourth in the final.
The 25-year-old was the only man inside 23secs with Thomas Verhoeven (23.22) and Jacob Peters following him home.
He was back in the pool 40 minutes later where he claimed the 50 free crown ahead of Jacob Mills (22.45) with Kenzo Simons making it a Netherlands 1-3 in 22.67.
Sarah Dumont made two trips to the podium on a demanding afternoon. The Belgian won the 400 free in 4:16.49 ahead of Phoebe Cooper (4:17.88) and Angelina Rolman (4:17.98).
She returned for the 800 where Amelie Blocksidge was a clear winner in 8:38.62 to add to her second spot in the 1500. Dumont came home behind the young Briton in 8:47.82 with Alina Baievych third home in 8:49.86.
Tiago Fonseca Gomes repeated that feat, winning the 400 free in 3:52.52 where Johannes Liebmann (3:56.41) and Cristobal Vargas Trujillo (3:57.58) were second and third.
He came back for the 800 where he was just 0.08 off winner Moritz Erikmann who held on in 8:06.95 despite Fonseca Gomes’ fast finish for 8:07.03. Liebmann was third in 8:10.21.
Kara Hanlon led an all- British podium in the 100m breaststroke, adding the two-length title to the 200 in 1:07.54. Theodora Taylor (1:09.81) and Jasmine Carter (1:10.52) joined her on the rostrum.
Max Morgan led home Aquatics GB teammate Filip Nowacki in the men’s race, coming from second at halfway to touch in 1:00.18 to 1:01.31. Koen de Groot of Team NL was third in 1:01.66.
Milou van Wijk was the only woman inside 25secs in the 50 free where she won in 24.94 ahead of Skye Carter (25.36) and Sam van Nunen (25.50).
Sandra Maria Balto was the only woman inside 27secs in the 50 fly to win in 26.76 ahead of Britta Koehorst (27.16) and Blythe Kinsman (27.45).
In the para events in Rotterdam, Anton De Jaeger stopped the clock in 27.02 in the 50m butterfly S9 and at 27.02 in the 50 free S9.
Berta Colomer Roura headed the women’s 50m freestyle S10 in 31.43, Gwyneth van der Spek touched in 1:57.56 in the 100m breaststroke SB6 with Aymeric Parmentier clocking 1:11.71 in the men’s SB14 event.
