Ohio State defensive assistant reportedly joining Texas Longhorns staff

Texas Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian is reportedly targeting Ohio State Buckeyes defensive assistant LaAllan Clark to join the UT staff as outside linebacker’s coach, according to Matt Zenitz of 247sports. Clark has been with the Buckeyes for two seasons.

Clark was a defensive ends coach at Southern University before joining the OSU staff in 2023 to work with the defensive line. Clark is also the CEO of LC Performance, where he has trained current and former NFL defensive linemen like Ed Oliver, Jeffrey Simmons and Danielle Hunter. Clark played defensive end at Grambling State and Northwestern State. He began his coaching career with Prairie View A&M in 2019.

At Texas, Clark would coach Trey Moore, Ethan Burke and Colin Simmons. Simmons won the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award after his stellar 2024 season. Clark follows the transfer from Ohio State to Texas of defensive tackle Hero Kanu.

While Clark will not be his position coach, Clark will also follow Ohio State defensive tackle Hero Kanu to Austin, as Kanu transferred to Texas last week after three seasons at Ohio State. Clark bid the Buckeyes program farewell on social media on Sunday.

Similar to Michigan the year before, the Ohio State coaching staff is being picked apart. Clark is the sixth departure from the Ohio State staff. Grad assistant Mike Sollenne, offensive assistant Riley Larkin, defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, offensive line coach Justin Frye and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly have all announced they are leaving Columbus.
