Spring has sprung with the Ohio State football program with this being the first day of spring ball. Things will look a little different around the Woody Hayes Athletic Center this year because things won’t end with the traditional spring game, but rather a “spring showcase.” We’re not entirely sure what that is yet because it seems like head coach Ryan Day and staff aren’t really sure what it is yet either.
Still, we’ll get to see and hear plenty from the players and coaching staff as things progress through spring as snow turns to sleet and the flowers begin to bloom around Central Ohio, so we’ll be on top of it all.
One of those situations arose after the first day was in the books as Day stepped to the podium for about a 38-minute press conference to kick off the spring and talk about where the team is and to field questions from the beat writers and reporters who were on hand to welcome a new team that will begin to put together the building blocks toward defending the program’s ninth national title and memorable run through the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff last season.
If you didn’t catch what Day had to say in today’s media opportunity, we have the entire press conference for you thanks to Letterman Row. You’ll have to fast forward to about the 8:45 mark, but there’s plenty to take in from there. You can hear Day touch on how spring will look, the quarterback competition, the coaching staff, some personnel competitions, and more.
We’ll continue to have more as spring ball continues and gets longer in the tooth, all the way up until the last day with the spring showcase set for April 12. Check back often as we dissect and analysis position battles, important players, storylines, and more.
