Spring Break quickly coming for Ohio State’s student-athletes, the Buckeyes are getting in the last few spring football practices before resuming following the break and wasting no time preparing for their 2026 campaign. Talent all over the field and recruiting opportunities each session, Ohio State’s coaching staff is making the most of these few weeks and using it to their benefit both on and off the field.

Good news once again on Wednesday for Ohio State’s chances of landing top targets in the future cycles, the momentum is there and should pay off in major ways.

Four-star RB closer to decision after releasing top six schools

Yes to land a commitment at the running back position in the 2027 recruiting class, Ohio State and Carlos Locklyn have been pushing hard to land their top priorities. Multiple names in the mix, the favorite has long been David Gabriel Georges, and the Buckeyes are in good position.

Like any year, the smartest coaching staffs have multiple top options as backup plans. The same method for Locklyn in 2027, so far Ohio State is appealing to several running backs.

The latest good news on the recruiting front, Wednesday’s update regarding Georgia native, Nigel Newkirk kept the Buckeyes in good graces. The No. 1954 player nationally and 11th best at the position per the 247Sports Composite grades, Newkirk has 30-plus offers, but has trimmed his list to just six final programs he will be deciding from. Including Ohio State, Nigel also named Alabama, LSU, Miami, Michigan, and USC as his finalists.

No shortage of national powerhouses on his list, the Buckeyes will have some stuff competition in this battle, but clearly have done enough so far. Alabama the rumored leader here, the next step in this recruitment is to ensure Nigel is on campus to get a closer look at all Ohio State has to offer.
