Ohio State has seen a lull in recruiting headlines the last month or so. With summer quickly approaching, Ohio State’s 2027 class currently has 13 verbal commitments, which is good enough for the No. 13 class by 247Sports.
While this is a great start, and the Buckeyes already have the centerpiece of the class locked up in five-star edge DJ Jacobs, Ohio State is certainly far from finished.

Ryan Day and the Ohio State coaching staff have spent the last few weeks, hitting the recruiting trail head on. The staff has traveled all across the country in search of the nation’s top talents and trying to get them to commit to playing college football in Columbus, Ohio. Now, the staff is switching things up as those recruits that are also interested in Ohio State are starting to make visits with the Buckeyes in both the official and unofficial nature.
Ohio State has not hosted a large quantity of players on official visits yet, but those recruits that have recently taken official visits with Ohio State are premiere recruits that could play for any college football program they want. While Ohio State’s approach has been more selective than maybe expected, the coaching staff is preparing for visit season to heat up and not just for this year’s cycle.
The Buckeyes are also preparing to host members of the 2028 recruiting class on unofficial visits and their visitor list continues to grow daily. This week, Ohio State is looking to host another handful of recruits and one of the bigger names expected on campus is 2028 four-star offensive tackle Tyrie Davis-Winn (Drexel Hill, PA / Monsignor Bonner) who has an unofficial visit scheduled for June 10.
This weeks visit for Davis-Winn will not be his first to Ohio State as he last visited with the Buckeyes in April of this year. The visit earlier in the year was productive for both Ohio State and Davis-Winn as the blue-chip OT left Columbus with an official scholarship offer from the Buckeyes. It was also not his first to Ohio State as he also visited last October for a game day visit.

With this being the third unofficial visit for Davis-Winn to Ohio State, the Buckeyes are certainly one of the favorites in his recruitment, but they are not alone. Davis-Winn has also recently visited with Notre Dame and Texas A&M and both visits went well and he left his visit with Texas A&M with a scholarship offer. He also has visits scheduled with Georgia Tech, Georgia, Penn State, Syracuse and Florida scheduled after his Ohio State visit.
Davis-Winn is the No. 23 OT in the 247Sports Composite and he is the No. 214 national recruit in the 2028 cycle. He is also the No. 7 recruit out of Pennsylvania.
Ohio State to host 2028 blue-chip LB
This will not be the only week this month that Ohio State will be hosting some of the nation’s top talents in the 2027 class and beyond. Another recruit in the 2028 cycle scheduled to visit with Ohio State this month is four-star linebacker Landon Miller (Concord, CA / De La Salle) who will be taking an unofficial visit to Columbus June 16.
Like Davis-Winn, Ohio State is far from the only school Miller will be visiting with this summer. Miller also has visits scheduled this summer with Oregon, USC, and Notre Dame. Also like Davis-Winn this month’s visit to Columbus will not be his first time visiting with Ohio State as he last visited the Buckeyes a few couple months ago in April.

Miller is one of the nation’s top LBs in the 2028 cycle, listed as the No. 7 LB in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 118 national recruit. He is also the No. 8 recruit out of the talent-rich state of California.
Miller is also showing off his potential in this year’s Nike’s The Opening camps. He showed out in The Opening’s Los Angeles regional which led to him being invited to The Opening Finals in late June. The Opening Finals take place in Oregon and he had already planned to visit Oregon and now has an even better reason.
With this, Oregon could potentially set themselves as the favorites in his recruitment unless Ohio State is able to set the bar incredibly high later this month.

This held true Monday as the Buckeyes opened up the week offering one of the nation’s top prospects in the 2028 class. Five-star combo guard Brady Pettigrew (Bollingbrook, IL / Bollingbrook) received an official scholarship offer from Ohio State to open up the week.
Pettigrew is already regarded as one of the best prospects in the 2028 cycle and his offer list of more than 10 schools proves this. He is the No. 1 combo guard in the 247Sports Composite and he is the No. 14 national recruit. He is also the No. 1 recruit out of Illinois.
