Ohio State women’s basketball coach named to Coach of the Year Watch List

by

Ohio State women’s basketball has exceeded expectations this season so far. With just a few games left, this is a top-ten team and could be a championship-contending side when March and April roll around.

The Buckeyes will have Michigan State and Maryland, top-25 teams, still on their schedule, but they should at least be a No. 3 seed or better when the dust settles and the seeding for the NCAA Tournament is released.

While the players should get most of the credit for their on-court talent, the team’s head coach, Kevin McGuff, has had a major impact as well. For his leadership, McGuff has earned a spot on the 2025 Naismith Women’s College Coach of the Year Watch List. He was among the 15 coaches that were nominated, and it is his fourth time on the watch list in the previous five seasons.

McGuff has been with the Buckeyes since 2013, when he joined the program from Washington. He was at Xavier almost a decade prior to that stint as well.

With a 198-102 record at Ohio State and a 453-201 record in his head coaching career, McGuff has a strong track record of performing at a high level in the college ranks. He has four Big Ten regular season championships under his belt and should continue to churn out results for the Buckeyes.
