Oklahoma QB John Mateer named SEC Offensive Player of the Week

The start to the season has gone swimmingly for Oklahoma Sooners quarterback John Mateer. The Sooners are 2-0 and Mateer leads the SEC in passing yards a couple of weeks into the season. After a big win over Michigan, John Mateer was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week.

Mateer threw for 270 yards and a touchdown and completed 62% of his passes on the day. He also ran for 74 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, doing it all for the Oklahoma offense. Mateer has 662 passing yards this season, which is the second-most passing yards through two games behind only Josh Heupel’s 773 in 1999.

He put together a statement performance for the Sooners against a good Michigan Wolverines defense. His dual-threat ability has been on full display in the first two weeks of the season. Mateer has thrown four touchdowns and run for three and is on pace for 42 total touchdowns this year.
