Oklahoma Sooners get a bump in latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

by

The Oklahoma Sooners won their last two games over Vanderbilt and Arkansas by a combined 60 points. That extended their current winning streak to five games as the Sooners look to enter their first SEC tournament on a high note.

With their wins last week, the Sooners climbed to No. 13 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. That’s up three spots from last week. They’re the fifth highest-ranked SEC team in the latest coaches poll.

As they did in the AP Top 25, the Texas Longhorns took the top spot in this week’s top 25, garnering 22 of a possible 31 first-place votes, and look to be the team to beat. They’re followed by UCLA, USC, Notre Dame, and UConn in the top five.

The Oklahoma Sooners will close the season at Florida and then at home for a top 20 showdown with the Alabama Crimson Tide. OU is 21-6 and in fifth place in the SEC but is playing excellent basketball of late. They have a legitimate chance to earn a top 16 seed in the NCAA tournament, which would allow Oklahoma to host the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament.
