The Oklahoma Sooners picked up a big-time commitment via the transfer portal in former five-star edge rusher Marvin Jones Jr, according to Pete Nakos of On3.

Jones started his college career with the Georgia Bulldogs before transferring to the Florida State Seminoles for the 2024 season. He was the No. 2 edge prospect in the 2022 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.

In his lone season with the Seminoles, Jones recorded 25 total tackles, six tackles for loss, and four sacks in 11 games. According to Pro Football Focus, Jones recorded 16 total pressures this season.

It was an improvement from his stint with the Bulldogs. In two seasons with Georgia, the former five-star prospect had 16 total tackles, six tackles for loss, and just two sacks combined.

He’s played 690 snaps in his three seasons at the collegiate level.

He was on the Sooners’ radar under former defensive coordinator Alex Grinch and assistant Jamar Cain. Amid the coaching change, Jones took the opportunity to join the then-defending national champion Bulldogs. Brent Venables also recruited Jones while the Sooners’ current head coach was the defensive coordinator at Clemson.

At 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds, Jones has fantastic size and athleticism for the position. He’ll be an instant contributor for a defensive line that’s become one of the strengths of the team. The Sooners are losing veteran edge players like Ethan Downs, Trace Ford, and Caiden Woullard and are relying on the development of Adepoju Adebawore, Danny Okoye, Taylor Wein, Nigel Smith, Wyatt Gilmore, C.J. Nickson, and Alexander Shieldknight. In the meantime, the Sooners have added a player with collegiate production and experience to the defensive end rotation.
