STILLWATER — With some scoring to replace, Oklahoma State women’s basketball coach Jacie Hoyt went hard on her first transfer portal addition.

The Cowgirls got a commitment Tuesday from the Division II National Player of the Year, Talexa Weeter of Fort Hays State in Kansas, whose 27.5 points per game led all players in Division I and II.

Weeter, a 6-foot guard who will be a senior, scored at least 25 points in 19 of 31 games this past season, including 45 against Northwest Missouri State in January and 46 against Harding in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

She scored at least 13 points in every game this season and was held below 20 just five times.

Weeter shot 39.8% from 3-point range on an average of 4.8 attempts per game — which was a small piece of her overall usage. Weeter averaged 18.6 total field goal tries per game and shot 51.5% from the floor.

She also averaged 8.9 rebounds per game and had 10 double-doubles. Weeter had received recruiting interest from programs like OU, Kansas State, Iowa State, Ole Miss, Colorado, Nebraska and others.

Weeter’s scoring punch will be a strong addition to a team that has been hit hard by transfer portal departures. Of the Cowgirls’ top seven scorers from this past season, two were seniors and four are set to transfer, with only guard Stailee Heard expected to return next season.
