Ole Miss football hires Mike Stoops for Pete Golding staff, per report

OXFORD — Mike Stoops is switching SEC schools to become an assistant at Ole Miss football.

Stoops is taking a position on the defensive staff at Ole Miss, per a report from On3 on Feb. 18.

Stoops was an inside linebackers coach at Kentucky from 2022-25. He worked under his brother, Mark Stoops, who was fired in December. He is also the brother of former Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops.

The Ole Miss staff has undergone major change since Pete Golding took over for Lane Kiffin. John David Baker is the new offensive coordinator. Patrick Toney is the new defensive coordinator.

Stoops has an extensive history coaching in college, focusing on defense. He began his career as a graduate assistant at Iowa in 1987.

Stoops was the defensive coordinator at Oklahoma from 2012-18 and was the head coach at Arizona from 2004-11.
