Olentangy Orange senior Devin Brown is one of six finalists for Mr. Basketball, the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association announced Wednesday.
The 6-foot-6 guard/forward and Davidson signee averages 13.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.0 steals and has led the Pioneers to their first state tournament. Orange (24-2) faces defending champion Cleveland St. Ignatius in a semifinal at noon Sunday at Canton Field House.
Brown previously was named the Division I district Player of the Year.
The other Mr. Basketball finalists are Steubenville’s Aiden Davis, Brunswick’s Trey Drexler, Delphos St. John’s Cameron Elwer, R.J. Greer of Kettering Alter and Marcus Johnson of Garfield Heights.
Davis and Greer are seniors.
Drexler, Elwer and Johnson are juniors. Johnson, an Ohio State commit, is a 2024 Mr. Basketball finalist and the son of 1998 honoree Sonny Johnson, who also is Garfield Heights’ coach.
Central Ohio has had seven Mr. Basketball winners, most recently Pickerington Central’s Devin Royal in 2023. Royal is now a sophomore at OSU, where he is a teammate of 2024 honoree Colin White from Ottawa-Glandorf.
This year’s winner will be announced March 20.
The OPSMA is scheduled to announced its Ms. Basketball winner later Wednesday. Westerville South junior guard Ariyana Cradle is one of eight finalists.
