In a shocking move, guard Olivia Miles has opted to neither enter the WNBA Draft nor run it back at Notre Dame. Instead, she will enter the NCAA transfer portal and utilize her last year of eligibility elsewhere. The move was reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Miles had spent her entire collegiate career playing for the Fighting Irish until now. Notre Dame’s loss was widely expected to be Miles’ last collegiate game, as she was the projected No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft.

I recently compiled a scouting report of Miles, who I believe is the best passer in the nation. I had suggested the Mystics should consider trading up to no. 2 in the draft to select her, and I was working on a separate piece outlining what such a trade might look like.

Now, a wrench is thrown in the Mystics’ WNBA Draft plans, as not only is Miles off the board but now all of the Mystics’ prospects are moved up a spot. This could ice Washington out of some highly-touted prospects like Dominique Malonga or Kiki Iriafen. It also reduces the Mystics’ leverage should they choose to package any of their three top-six draft picks in a trade.
