Michigan football fans are excited enough about Bryce Underwood having flipped from LSU in November before signing in December and joining the team. But now the anticipation builds.
The No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 recruiting class will be wearing maize and blue this season, but the question is just how quickly will he see the field? The enigmatic quarterback is likely to start at some point during the year, but will it be early in the season? Week 1? The waning part of the schedule?
On3 revealed its list of instant impact 2025 signees, and naturally, Underwood tops the list. Obviously, it’s one thing being a generational player, but Underwood also comes to Ann Arbor to fill the biggest position of need on the roster.
Here’s what Charles Power had to say:
“Bryce Underwood was the center of the biggest recruiting news of the 2025 cycle, when he flipped from LSU to Michigan in late November. On3’s No. 1 overall prospect enters an offense at Michigan that saw three different quarterbacks start games and finish 130th nationally in passing yards (133.6 yards per game). Given Underwood’s immense talent, recruiting pedigree, and historic NIL deal, it’s safe to project him to see the field as a true freshman. Michigan is also bringing in Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene from the Transfer Portal. The Five-Star Plus+ prospect provides an instant infusion of talent into Michigan’s quarterback room. At 6-foot-4, 215 pounds with an elite combination of arm talent and athleticism, Underwood is the most physically gifted quarterback prospect in the 2025 cycle. On top of the natural traits, he’s a highly accomplished high school signal caller, leading his Belleville (Mich.) High team to a 49-4 record and two state titles, while re-writing the state of Michigan record books along the way. The talent level and established track record has Underwood positioned to succeed early on in his college career.” – On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power
It’s not Underwood’s talent, athleticism, or physical development that could potentially hold him back. He’s already at college size and stature and has all of the physical tools and can make all of the throws. The big thing will be if he can learn to read college defenses, and if required to make checks at the line in Chip Lindsey’s offense, then that would also be part of the learning curve going from high school to college.
