One touted Notre Dame home game will be exclusively on streaming

by

Notre Dame’s Peacock game will be against Boise State this year.

Let’s translate that for those who still get frustrated trying to find which channel is broadcasting Notre Dame football in any given week. About once a year or so, NBC broadcasts a Notre Dame home game exclusively on Peacock, its streaming service. This year the game will be the Fighting Irish‘s Week 6 matchup against the Boise State Broncos.

NBC noted this during the Blue-Gold spring game, which also was only available to watch on Peacock.

Both the Broncos and Fighting Irish qualified for the 2024 College Football Playoff, with Notre Dame eventually falling to Ohio State in the National Championship game and Boise State losing to Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl. Notre Dame would beat Penn State in the Orange Bowl, 27-24, in order to advance to the National Championship game.

Having two 2024 playoff teams matchup in a tilt that’s only televised via streaming is an interesting choice — it could drive interest in Peacock (even if new subscribers only sign up for the game) but also cause complaints from fans who’d rather not pay to stream. The high-profile matchup will ratchet up the stakes of the discussion surrounding streaming versus broadcast.
