Dan Lanning has made a point to target legacy recruits for the Oregon Ducks in recent and upcoming recruiting cycles, but could he steal away a legacy recruit from a bitter rival?
While it is early in the process for 2028 recruits, the Ducks have made their interest known to four-star quarterback Titus Huard. Huard, the son of former QB Brock Huard, has a long family connection to rival Washington and could wind up as the next generation under center with the Huskies. For now, however, his recruitment is expanding nationwide.

Huard, a 6-foot-5 passer from Littleton, Colorado, has stayed busy since the contact period for 2028 recruits opened on June 15. The summer has been kind to Huard, having worked out at Clemson and Ohio State and picking up an offer from the Buckeyes in the process. His recruitment only continues to build.
The Ducks got in on the sweepstakes for Huard early, hosting him for a visit and extending an offer in January. Washington soon followed with an offer of their own. According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, Huard is the No. 145 overall recruit and No. 9 quarterback in the 2028 class.
Even though some of the country’s biggest brands are currently in the race, Huard’s recruitment could come down to the Pacific Northwest rivals. The Ducks did add five-star Will Mencl in the 2027 class, but more talent in the quarterback room couldn’t hurt.

The Huard family has not had the best of luck against the Ducks. Sam Huard, Titus’ cousin, never played against the Ducks in his two seasons with the Huskies. Brock Huard, Titus’ father, went 1-2 against the Ducks as a starter for Washington in the 90’s. He took the keys to the Washington offense from his brother, Damon Huard, Titus’ uncle.
Damon Huard was part of one of the biggest plays in Oregon football history. In 1994, Oregon corner Kenny Wheaton intercepted Huard and returned it 97 yards for a pick-six to help win the game. That moment has been viewed as the turning point for Oregon football, not only as a program but also in the rivalry with the Huskies.
Lanning has pushed for legacy recruits on the recruiting trail, earning commitments from Josiah Molden (son of former Oregon corner Alex Molden) and Sam Ngata (son of former Oregon defensive tackler Haloti Ngata). Akili Smith Jr., the son of the former Oregon passer of the same name, is currently on the Ducks’ roster. He has also offered Legarrette Blount Jr., the son of the ex-Ducks running back of the same name, in the 2028 class.

While Titus Huard still has a long way to go in his recruitment, Oregon’s early and continued interest could make this a race worth watching as the 2028 cycle heats up. Could he switch sides in the family rivalry? Time will tell.
