NORMAN — The records keep coming for OU women’s basketball.
The 11th-ranked Sooners set a program record for points in a half, scoring 68 in the first half of an eventual 110-46 blowout of Alabama State on Sunday at Lloyd Noble Center.
The Sooners led 68-29 at half, setting a program record for points in a half, and hit 11 first-half 3-pointers, also a program record.
OU finished with 16 3-pointers, just one off of a program record.
Skylar Vann led the Sooners with 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting while Aubrey Joens and Raegan Beers scored 14 each.
OU’s previous record for points in a half came against Oral Roberts on Nov. 7, 2022 when the Sooners scored 67.
Sunday’s game was the second time this season the Sooners have scored at least 100 points. OU set a program record for points in a game with a 122-56 win over Western Carolina on Nov. 13.
The Sooners (8-1) will host ORU at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 15.
Here are two more quick takeaways from the blowout win:
Sooners pour it on early
With four minutes to go in the first quarter, OU led by just three.
The Sooners hit 6 of their first 9 from the field, but Alabama State got off to a hot shooting start as well, helping the Hornets keep pace early.
But then OU put the pedal down, and quickly pulled away.
The Sooners scored 11 consecutive points and finished the quarter with a 19-5 run to grab control for good.
OU hit seven 3-pointers in the first, including two each by Lexy Keys and Skylar Vann.
The run eventually swelled to a 38-10 stretch and another 14-4 run late in the second quarter gave the Sooners a lead as big as 41 before the break.
OU keeps the ball moving
One of the keys to the Sooners’ offense this season has been ball movement.
OU came into the game second in the nation in assists per game at 23.4. It had 30 Sunday, the third time this season OU has recorded 30 or more assists.
Reyna Scott tied her career high with seven assists to lead the Sooners. Scott had just seven assists all season coming into the game.
Nevaeh Tot added six assists and Zya Vann a season-high five in the win.
Of the Sooners’ 27 first-half field goals, 22 were assisted.
OU also forced a season-high 27 turnovers. The Sooners hadn’t forced more than 21 in any game this season.
The Sooners outscored the Lady Hornets 40-6 off turnovers, tying a season-low for points off turnovers for an OU opponent.
Payton Verhuslt and Zya Vann had three steals each.
