The Panthers are being investigated by the NFL Players Association after linebacker Nic Scourton suffered a season-ending ACL tear on the first day of training camp last week.
Since the injury occurred so quickly into training camp, the NFLPA is looking into the circumstances that led to it.

The first few days of training camp are supposed to ease players into things with a mandatory five-day acclimatization period that does not allow for live contact during that stretch.

The only on-field activities that are allowed are running and conditioning.
The Charlotte Observer reported that a team spokesperson said the Panthers were cooperating with the NFLPA’s inquiry.
“We’re aware that they’re looking into it,” Canales said, per Panthers Wire. “We have the rules, we have the standards, we let them know. All we can really do is lay the groundwork out, show the guys good examples of what it looks like and go from there.”

As part of their investigation, the NFLPA will review video of Thursday’s practice, which is when the injury occurred, to further understand what transpired leading to the injury, per Pro Football Talk.

Panthers tight end Tommy Tremble told reporters on Sunday that it was “just a freak accident,” The Athletic reported.
“I feel so bad for the kid because he worked his butt off this offseason and I think this was gonna be his best year yet,” he said. “I don’t think it was anything on anyone’s tempo, everyone’s just trying to get better every day. It was just an unfortunate thing to happen at practice … It kind of sucked the life out of us when we saw it happen.”
Scourton was going into his second season in the NFL after recording 47 tackles and five sacks for the Panthers in 2025.
