All signs appear to be pointing in the right direction for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

As the Chiefs began their spring practices at OTAs this week, Mahomes was a limited participant. He was able to participate in 7-on-7s, but not 11-on-11s, according to head coach Andy Reid. Mahomes said he is still working up to being able to start making cuts off of his injured knee when he’s running.

On Wednesday, May 28, Mahomes and Reid spoke to reporters in their first media availability since the team’s OTAs began on May 26. Both appeared encouraged by the progress the veteran quarterback has made so far, but Mahomes is still trying not to look too far ahead.

“I don’t want to miss games,” Mahomes said. “As a competitor, as a football player, I want to be there. I know it’s still a long ways away – I can’t predict the future. And so all I can do is be great today, and then continue to be great tomorrow.

“I’ve gotten to where I’ve gotten to because of that mindset. The goal at the end – the very far end – is to be ready and to be able to go out there and play with the guys Week 1 at Arrowhead (Stadium). But I gotta take it day by day.”
