Throughout this offseason they are many things this Georgia team needs to address if.they do not want to replicate to have a disappointing end to their season like this past season in the Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame.
ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum thinks Georgia’s offensive coaching staff could be the issue for Georgia.
“I frankly believe Georgia’s problem is at the offensive coordinator’s position. I think Kirby Smart, for as great as I believe he is and I know you guys agree, is being way too loyal to Mike Bobo, and I would get rid of Bobo today,” Finebaum said on 680 The Fan.
In the three seasons prior to 2024, the Georgia offense ranked inside of the top 10 for scoring 38.6 (2021), 41.1 (2022), 40.1 (2023). This past season, the offense ranked 38th and only averaged 31.5 points per game. The UGA offense ranked 99th in the country in first half scoring with a disappointing 11.1 points in the first half. The slow starts were evident in big games against Clemson, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, and Texas (in the SEC championship).
“That (offense) was the frustrating part of last season and Georgia was good, they just weren’t great. They still did okay but okay isn’t good enough at Georgia anymore,” Finebaum said. Saying Georgia ‘did okay’ is a bit harsh since Georgia won the SEC and make the College Football Playoff.
Head coach Kirby Smart knows this offense has to play more complementary football to help the stout defense that he puts on the field every year. With added on pressure from fans and media, expect Smart to make sure the offense is ready to contribute at an improved rate this year under Mike Bobo.
