Although the NHL trade deadline has already come and gone, that doesn’t mean the action stops for the American Hockey League.
And the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (WBS) Penguins have made a move.
On Tuesday, WBS traded defenseman Nikolai Knyzhov to the Grand Rapids Griffins for future considerations.
Knyzhov was originally signed to a paid tryout (PTO) by Pittsburgh last summer, and when released from his PTO, he was subsequently signed by WBS.
Undrafted, Knyzhov spent parts of four NHL seasons with the San Jose Sharks from 2019-24, as he went back and forth between the Sharks and the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL. In his NHL career, he’s registered three goals and 12 points in 81 games and is a minus-29.
In 14 games with WBS this season, Knyzhov had two goals and 7 points and was a plus-6.
