The 2025-26 season, yet again, has been one for the record books for Geno Auriemma’s squad. Behind Sarah Strong, Azzi Fudd and more, the Huskies have been bulldozing through their opponents all year — so much so, that they haven’t yet lost a single game.
UConn came into March Madness unbeaten, and heading into the Final Four, the team has remained a juggernaut. At 38-0 entering the last weekend of the season, the Huskies have a chance to complete a perfect season, something the historic program hasn’t accomplished in a decade.
Here’s a look at the list of perfect champions UConn could join by winning the 2026 NCAA Tournament title.

Perfect seasons in NCAA women’s basketball
Over the history of women’s college basketball, there have been 10 teams to finish a season unbeaten as the national champions.
The most recent example was South Carolina in 2023-24; Dawn Staley’s squad went 38-0, beating Iowa in the NCAA Tournament title game.
The Huskies, however, have been the gold standard when it comes to a flawless season. In six seasons, they have finished unbeaten as the NCAA Tournament champion, with the 2015-16 being the last time UConn was able to complete a perfect season.

Perfect seasons in NCAA men’s basketball
On the men’s side, perfect seasons have been slightly less common — especially in the current age of the sport. There hasn’t been an undefeated men’s NCAA Tournament champion since Indiana in 1976-77.
There have only been seven undefeated seasons in men’s college basketball. Four of those seasons belong to John Wooden’s iconic UCLA squads of the late 1960s and early 1970s, boasting Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Walton and more.
