The meeting marks the Mercury’s first-ever regular-season game against the Valkyries, who are playing in their inaugural WNBA season. The league has not had 13 franchises since 2009, when the Sacramento Monarchs played.
Satou Sabally leads the Mercury with 20.5 points and is sixth in the league in scoring. Sabally joins reigning MVP A’ja Wilson and WNBA leading scorer Napheesa Collier as the only players this season averaging 20-plus points, eight-plus rebounds, two-plus assists and two-plus steals.
The Valkyries are led by Janelle Salaün’s 12.0 points and 7.4 rebounds.
