College sports fans everywhere, particularly those who double as gamers, rejoiced in February 2024 with the return of EA Sports’ iconic NCAA Football game.
EA Sports’ announcement meant that UNC fans could finally lead their beloved Tar Heels to the College Football Playoff, something realistically out-of-reach. Whether you took over the game with Omarion Hampton, spent hours recruiting top talent, or turned from walk-on to starter in Road to Glory, College Football 25 was truly a highlight of last year.

Over a year later after announcing the return of its college football game, EA Sports just gave fans their highlight of Summer 2025.
On Monday morning, EA Sports revealed that its iconic “NCAA Basketball” franchise will soon return to the sports world – in 2028.
The last time North Carolina fans got their hands on a copy of NCAA Basketball? Back in 2009, when Blake Griffin still played for Oklahoma, before embarking on an illustrious NBA career.
On3 Sports’ Nick Kosko reported that, due to the success of EA Sports’ College Football ’25 game last summer, a basketball game was logically the next step.

The production of college sports video games stopped after NCAA Football 14, due to a lawsuit from UCLA‘s Ed O’Bannon, who won the 1995 National Championship under legendary head coach John Wooden. When athletes were then able to profit from NIL money, those same exciting games returned to fans across the world.
UNC’s roster in NCAA Basketball 10 had a few holdovers from the 2009 National Championship team, most notably Marcus Ginyard and Deon Thompson, but otherwise lacked a ton of firepower. Tar Heel fans could also find future NBA players Tyler Zeller, John Henson and Ed Davis on that roster, plus point guard Larry Drew II.
