
Women’s March Madness hasn’t historically been known for the Cinderellas and bracket busters the men’s version of the event popularized over the years. But there’s a genuine surprise left as the 2026 NCAA Tournament moves into the Sweet 16 this week.
No. 10 seed Virginia is the first team to advance to the Sweet 16 from the First Four after a double-overtime win against No. 2 seed Iowa in the round of 32. AI doesn’t expect the fairytale, or the upsets, to last much longer.

USA TODAY Sports asked Microsoft Copilot’s AI chatbot to run a simulation of every remaining women’s game left in March Madness, beginning with the Sweet 16 and ending with the national championship game winner on April 5. It returned back a whole bunch of chalk picks, with all four No. 1 seeds still advancing to the Final Four and No. 1 overall seed UConn as its champion.
