Defending champions Gloucester-Hartpury delivered a statement 41-12 bonus-point win against league leaders Exeter Chiefs to move level on points at the top of the Premiership Women’s Rugby table.

Two tries each from Mia Venner and Pip Hendy and one from Bethan Lewis helped the visitors to 29-0 lead at half-time at Sandy Park.

Hooker Neve Jones was next to cross and Wales captain Hannah Jones completed the scoring for Gloucester.

Despite the defeat, the Chiefs have played one game fewer than Gloucester-Hartpury and third-placed Saracens.

Earlier on Saturday, Sarries defeated Bristol Bears 33-24 in a nine-try thriller at StoneX Stadium to move a point behind the leaders.

The Bears, who headed into the game two points behind Saracens, raced into an early 14-0 lead through tries by Rownita Marston-Mulhearn and Abbie Ward.

However, the hosts responded to score three unanswered tries and led 21-19 at the break.

Wales wing Jasmine Joyce-Butchers raced in to regain the lead for the visitors in the second half, before tries from fly-half Zoe Harrison, on her 100th game, and May Campbell put the game out of reach.

Loughborough Lightning hammered bottom side Sale Sharks 50-7 to extend their losing run to 10 matches.

Canada back Krissy Scurfield scored four tries, with prop Christine Belisle grabbing a brace.
