Preview: Gazoz and Fullerton star names at 2025 Conquest Cup

by

Türkiye is set to host its second outdoor world ranking event of 2025 next week with the Conquest Cup, following April’s Antalya 2025 Spring Arrows European Grand Prix.

In a big increase from last year’s competitor count – which saw 140 archers – this year’s event in Istanbul will feature 202 compound and recurve athletes, representing 59 different clubs and federations from around the world.

Unsurprisingly, Türkiye has the largest delegation in the city, with 19 entries from the national federation, alongside a wide range of athletes from clubs across the country. Tokyo 2020 Olympic Champion Mete Gazoz is one of 127 Turkish competitors and easily the most recognisable name.

The 25-year-old is looking to go one better than last year’s Conquest Cup – his home city – where he won silver, and climb to the top of the recurve men’s podium.

The compound mixed team silver medallists from Shanghai 2025, the second stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup – Batuhan Akcaoglu and Hazal Burun – are also competing for valuable world ranking points and a prize of 3,000 Euros (USD 3,400) for each winner in their respective categories.

Compound men’s world number two Mathias Fullerton is another notable entrant. The Dane will be hoping to win on his first appearance, having never competed at the event before.
