Previewing Colorado men’s basketball’s Monday night matchup with Kansas

by

On Monday night, the Colorado men’s basketball team will look for their third straight home win when the Buffs welcome the No. 23 Kansas Jayhawks to the CU Events Center.

The Buffs (11-16, 2-14 Big 12) have won two of their last three Big 12 contests and are coming off their biggest win of the conference schedule, a thrilling 76-74 victory over the Baylor Bears on Saturday. CU will want to exact some revenge against the Jayhawks (18-9, 9-7 Big 12) after Kansas beat the Buffs in Lawrence on Feb. 11, 71-59.

The Buffs’ big men must bring their “A” game against Jayhawks center Hunter Dickinson, who leads Kansas in points (16.3) and rebounds (9.7) per game. CU also must keep an eye on 3-point specialist Zeke Mayo, who’s shooting over 40% from deep.

Freshman forward Sebastian Rancik has made the most of his opportunities since joining Colorado’s starting lineup, averaging 8.8 points and 4.4 rebounds over the past eight contests. Julian Hammond III will counter Kansas’ guards with his 12.9 points and 3.1 assists per game.

Not including the canceled 2021 matchup, Kansas last visited Boulder in 2013 when Askia Booker delivered a game-winning buzzer-beater.

Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. MT on ESPN.
