Random Ramsdom: Emmanuel Forbes has a big opportunity in 2026

by

The Los Angeles Rams declined Emmanuel Forbes fifth year option going into the 2026 season, so unless L.A. and Forbes strike a new deal, he should be a free agent going into the 2027 season. If Forbes has a strong 2026, then he’ll go into free agency at the perfect time. For Forbes, this year with the Rams could be the opportunity of a lifetime.

Forbes won’t be the cornerback 1, and if he thrives, he could stay with the Rams, or another team may sign him to a larger deal. If Forbes doesn’t do so well, then his free agency period could be tougher.

Either way, it’s an exciting time for Forbes, he’ll find out if he can make the most of it.

“With Los Angeles declining Emmanuel Forbes Jr.’s fifth-year option, Wallace could have a bigger opportunity on the horizon. Forbes will begin the year as CB3 behind Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson, but he’ll be an unrestricted free agent next offseason. In whatever other way you read the tea leaves, the secondary has become an open competition

That could open the door for Wallace to step in as his replacement, the first backup off the sidelines. Although he will be a restricted free agent himself, the Rams should be able to tender him at an economic cost. Wallace is entering the final season of a three-year, $2.9 million contract.“

“With their first pick, the Rams drafted Ty Simpson as the heir to Matthew Stafford. Simpson is viewed as a limited quarterback who plays it safe and can’t push the ball downfield. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Simpson may not have the arm that Fernando Mendoza has, but the arm talent is there. Simpson had 30 big-time throws last season via PFF, which tied for first in the nation with Diego Pavia and Dante Moore. He may not be as flashy as Mendoza, but there’s a reason he was viewed as a first-round pick.“

“With Colby Parkinson, Tyler Higbee, Davis Allen and Terrance Ferguson all returning, it’s hard to see a role for Klare as a rookie. But it sounds like the Rams have a plan for him to play this season.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN shared recently that the Rams expect Klare to play as a rookie and he could become one of their top tight ends in 2027 when Allen and Parkinson’s contracts expire. For that reason, the Rams want to build chemistry between Klare and Ty Simpson.“
