The Raptors are converting two-way player A.J. Lawson to a standard contract for the remainder of the 2025/26 season, agents Todd Ramasar and Mike Simonetta told Shams Charania of ESPN.

Blake Murphy of Sportnet.ca notes that Lawson’s deal will expire this summer, making him a free agent. The move also makes him eligible for the postseason, since two-way players cannot play in the playoffs.

The 6’5″ guard/forward has appeared in 23 games for Toronto this season, averaging 4.0 points and 1.9 rebounds while shooting 41.5% from three in limited minutes.

He has also been productive with Raptors 905 in the G League, putting up 21.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.4 steals over 36 games.

A Toronto native, Lawson went undrafted in 2021 out of South Carolina and is now in his fourth NBA season, with previous stops in Minnesota and Dallas.

He followed a similar path last year, earning a promotion before being waived in October and quickly re-signing on a two-way deal.

Toronto opened a roster spot by waiving Tyreke Key, who didn’t appear in a game for the team.

If Lawson is converted Saturday, he’ll earn an extra $27,343 on top of his two-way salary; if Sunday, that figure drops to $13,672.

The Raptors must win Sunday’s regular season finale against the Nets to clinch their first playoff berth since 2021/22.
