Westlake High School quarterback Rees Wise announced Monday evening his commitment to Ole Miss. The Central Texas recruit is the 85th-ranked prospect in Texas and the 36th-ranked quarterback in the country, according to 247Sports. Wise chose Ole Miss over the likes of Nebraska, Virginia Tech and Arizona.
Wise made great strides as a junior, throwing for 2,598 yards, 23 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The rising senior is also a threat on the ground, rushing for 15 touchdowns and 464 yards as well. In the UIL playoffs, he led the Westlake past Lake Travis to the Class 6A Division I state championship game, where they lost 50-21 to North Crowley.

Westlake Chaparrals quarterback Rees Wise (9) throws a pass against the Atascosita Eagles during the third quarter at the non-district Class 6A football game on Friday, Sept 13, 2024, at Westlake High School in West Lake Hills, TX.
Westlake is known for its quarterback development, with Cade Klubnik, Sam Ehlinger and Drew Brees all being notable alumni. Wise is next in line and despite the commitment, could still boost his recruiting ranking depending on how his upcoming senior season plays out.
Wise rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 155 yards in the state final against North Crowley. He seems poised for a big senior year, while defensive lineman Maddox Flynt, safety Thompson Bennett and wideout Lawson Grimes are some of the better players in the Austin area. It would be a surprise if Westlake didn’t have another deep playoff run next fall.
