Report: Twin Cities “Clear Favorite” To Host 2028 NFL Draft

by

Not long back, we passed along the news that the Twin Cities had submitted a bid to host the 2028 NFL Draft, an event that could prove to be a huge economic boost for the area given the number of people who would likely attend. Based on some of the news we’re seeing today, it sounds like that is very close to becoming a reality.

A report in Sports Business Journal says that the Minneapolis/St. Paul area is the “clear favorite” to host the NFL’s selection meeting in 2028. Next year’s event is already slated to take place in Washington, D.C., and if the 2028 Draft is held in the Twin Cities, it will mean that all four NFC North cities will have hosted the event.

The 2026 Draft last week in Pittsburgh set a record for attendance for the three-day event, with just over 800,000 people making their way to the Steel City. I don’t know if a Draft held in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area would be able to match or surpass that number, but an event of this magnitude would still bring a lot of money to the coffers in the local area.

The city could get confirmation before the end of this month. The NFL’s events committee is set to meet next week to discuss the matter, and it could be voted on by the NFL owners at their meeting in Orlando on 19 and 20 May.

According to the SBJ article, Commissioner Roger Goodell said that representatives from ten different cities were at the Draft in Pittsburgh last week as potential hosts for the 2028 Draft, but it still makes it sound as though the Minneapolis/St. Paul area has the inside track to hosting the event in two years.

What do you think about U.S. Bank Stadium and the Twin Cities area potentially hosting the 2028 NFL Draft, folks? Would you make the pilgrimage to Minneapolis to be in attendance if it were to happen?
