Richardson celebrates signing with SMU

by

Feb. 8—Ada High School senior Sania Richardson signed with the Southern Methodist University women’s basketball team last November. Her family, coaches and friends celebrated that big event Wednesday afternoon inside the Cougar Activity Center.

After playing at Ada High School during her freshman and sophomore campaigns, Richardson came “home” and rejoined the Lady Cougars over Christmas break. With Richardson’s return to run the show from her point guard position, the Ada girls basketball team hopes to make a strong playoff run.

Richardson is a two-time Ada News All-Area Girls Basketball Player of the Year and is second on the all-time list of Ada High School girls basketball career scoring list.

She averaged over 24 points per game for Grind Prep as a junior and was named the League MVP.

SMU women’s basketball head coach Toyelle Wilson was thrilled to have Richardson join the Mustangs program.

“Sania is a quick guard that will change the pace in how we play,” Wilson said. “She has great court vision, is a great facilitator, and can attack off the dribble and get to the rim. She is one of the best passers and playmakers I’ve seen in a while. She does things on the floor at her size that I can’t believe she can do. I can’t wait to have her on the Hilltop.”

Richardson was named to the 2025 McDonald’s All-American Girls West Nominees list last month.
