Rob Font: Experience makes me Raul Rosas Jr.’s toughest fight

by

Rob Font plans on shutting down Raul Rosas Jr.’s hype at UFC 326.

Font (22-9 MMA, 12-8 UFC) takes on Rosas Jr. (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) on Saturday’s main card (Paramount+) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The pair were booked to fight at UFC Fight Night 259 this past September, but Rosas Jr. withdrew and was replaced by David Martinez. Font lost a decision, which snapped his two-fight winning streak.

Since suffering his first-career loss to Christian Rodriguez in 2023, Rosas Jr. has picked up four wins in a row to re-cement himself as a legit rising bantamweight prospect. But with his strength of schedule being far more established than Rosas Jr.’s, No. 13 Font wants to show the 21-year-old the levels to the game.

“I’ve never fought somebody with this much hype, this much of a following,” Font told MMA Junkie Radio of Rosas Jr. “I’m pretty sure he’s going to have a huge crowd. He’s young, he’s hungry, and I know what that feels like. He wants to make his name. He’s trying to retire early and all that. So, there’s a lot for him to gain from this fight, and that does something to somebody.

“I’ve got to assume he’s only going to get better, and he’s not going to be the Raul Rosas from the last fight. This is a tough fight that I’m not looking past. I definitely have the experience on him, and I’ve been in there with some tough, tough guys. I do believe I’m his toughest matchup to date, but I’m also not looking past him. This is going to be an exciting fight.”

So, how does Font plan on using his experience to prevail?

“I do think I’m going to be in better shape,” Font said. “I think I’ll be a little bit better with conserving my energy than he will. Again, that’s what we’re thinking, and I think if it doesn’t go his way early, he’s going to slow down a lot more for me, then I’m going to be able to do what I need to do.”

According to FanDuel, Font finds himself a moderate +176 underdog against Rosas Jr., who’s a -230 favorite.
