Kevin Pelton was recently hired by Rockets ownership for a front office role with the WNBA’s Houston Comets, sources told ESPN’s Alexa Philippou.
Pelton, the first official hire of the Comets, was previously an NBA and WNBA writer for ESPN. The Comets will begin their Houston era in 2027 after relocating from Connecticut.

Philippou shares additional details at ESPN:
Pelton is currently the assistant GM and vice president of analytics for the franchise, which is returning to the WNBA.
Ahead of the Sun’s final year in Uncasville in 2026, Pelton will work with the existing Connecticut front office (including general manager Morgan Tuck and team president Jen Rizzotti), as an additional resource provided by the Rockets.
The move comes as the team prepares for upcoming offseason activity.
That offseason activity includes the April 13 WNBA draft; an April 3 expansion draft to make room for two new franchises; and an upcoming free agency period. All will take place before WNBA training camps open on April 19, which incentivized the Rockets to move quickly.
Since the Fertitta family owns both the Rockets and Comets, Pelton will presumably be available to consult on matters related to the Rockets, as well. However, his primary job is on the WNBA side.
