Roman Mityukov Powers Away in 200 Back At Swiss Championships to Top Rankings
Olympic silver medallist Roman Mityukov powered away on the second half of the 200 back to go top of the rankings at the Swiss Championships in Uster.
Mityukov was 0.24 ahead of Flavio Bucca at the first turn but his lead was cut to just 0.02 at halfway. The double world medallist pulled away on the third length and a 29.25 final 50 propelled him into the wall in 1:55.36, 0.53 off his 1:54.83 Swiss record set at the 2025 worlds in Singapore.
It was his second title of the meet following victory over 50m and saw him displace Pieter Coetze and Hidekazu Takehara who’d shared top spot after each going 1:55.57 at the China Open and Japan Swim respectively.
Bucca came home 2.12secs behind in 1:57.48 with Leon Opatril third in 2:04.59.
Antoine Viquerat claimed his second breaststroke gold in as many days when he was the only man to break 28secs in the 50, clocking 27.88. It followed his 200 breaststroke title and silver over 100m.
Noè Ponti was second in 28.13 with Leo Messerli third in 28.35. World silver medallist Ponti didn’t compete in the 100 fly where Robin Yeboah was the only man to break 54secs, lifting the crown in 53.10.
